Blenheim Half/10k Results

Another decidedly limited ERR turnout for a Blenheim race (must make a note for next year's fixtures), which at least meant an excellent time for John to play his joker.

Rachel and Claire weren't in club colours, so a belated welcome back to the jobsworth hat.

John won the wine (again), which Jane may or may not have drunk. Anyway, his report follows the results.

Blenheim Half and 10k – a stroll in the park?
I entered the long-league this year…simply to run more miles. Blimey, if you lot keep on not turning up I might just go and win it.  2nd in a two-man race was great result, more than I could have hoped for based on this summer’s mileage (0). Graham won our men’s race with me about 20 fat minutes behind him. Denise and Kate represented the ladies, and Denise came in a slim 4 seconds behind the old man (Graham, not Derek). Kate, as regal and majestic as ever, very nearly didn’t finish. As she rounded the Palace on the first lap, a horse-drawn carriage pulled up alongside her and royal footmen tried to take her in for afternoon tea with the Duke.
The 10k race also saw an over-whelming turn-out, with 4 in the running. Marisa took a magnificent victory, on a lovely sunny day, in beautiful surroundings, with a great crowd and smart T-shirts.  Mrs B (my Mrs B, Derek) came in 4 minutes behind. A smashing race; well-organised with great support in and around the Palace, Park and villages, notably in Coombe – thanks to Graham, Jane, The Real Mrs B and Mark Tyrrell (thanks for the watch Mark – the women alongside me were amazed at your loyalty. Beer in the post).
See you all at Tadley. Well, to be honest I’d rather not see the men’s long-league leaders. I can smell 2nd and almost taste 1st!

Woodstock 12 Results

Another pretty small ERR turnout at Woodstock meant that it was certainly a joker day if you hadn't already played it.

Well done to Jacky and Kate for winning their categories. As is traditional at Woodstock, I won the wine, so you can blame me for the report.

I normally have to remind people that along with winning the wine comes the additional ‘prize’ of writing the race report, so it’s a bit embarrassing to remember that my name was drawn out after the Woodstock 12. This is a repeat of events 2 years ago, although bearing in mind the number of ERR runners who ran the event, it’s not such a coincidence.

On the day, event organiser Mike Shipway asked me beforehand if Eynsham were ‘out in force’. Errr… not exactly; there were 7 of us present, including cross country specialist Keith Baker, and random race-chooser Nik Roberts. Steve Butler was using the event for Abingdon Marathon training, as were Denise and I, hence his running back after the race, and our running to Blenheim beforehand.  This meant that most of us weren’t exactly running it as a race. Among those that were, Kate won another Kate award, and Jacky won the ladies’ V45 prize, with exactly the same time as the second-placed finisher. Nice to see that all that practising of the dip finish paid off.

ERR Poland Trip Results

Or 'what we did on our holidays', at least from a running point of view.

Firstly, Nick Sheard completed the 100km '7 Valleys' (and quite a few hills) Challenge in 16 hours 47 minutes and 18 seconds. If he describes an event as 'brutal' then it must be pretty tough.

While he was doing that, some of us were running the 10k, and the results are below. To be honest, it was a bit downhill, but the PBs should stand, so why not the club record?

A 6 Mile race in Hook Norton - Phew, what a scorcher!
This summer’s 6 mile race around Hook Norton, let’s call it the Hooky 6, was sponsored by the local brewery…Hooky. It was the standard course - two laps around the local village roads -but with the added bonus/hazard of a very busy ‘local’ sponsored 100km cycle ride. On more than one occasion I found myself thinking “God, I wish I was on a bike” and also caught myself checking out the machinery and apparel; I’d be a great runner if only I could concentrate. It was a race of two halves, in that the first lap was cool, yet the second lap was boiling. It was as if Hooky Brewery had turned up the temperature in order to sell more beer.  A great race, one that more should enter next year if only for the trendy Hooky 6 drinks bottles.

Chippy Motavation Results

A wet night at Chipping Norton, which may explain the slightly lower ERR turnout of 29 runners out of 257 overall.

The results don't mention Esther, but I'm pretty sure that she ran, so will update when I know her time.

Update (11/8): The Court of Arbitration for Sport (well, Kidlington Running Club) have agreed that Esther did run, so her time is added.

41 ERR folk took part out of 252 overall, which seems a pretty healthy percentage.

Let me know if anyone played their joker, or if I've put anyone into the wrong league.

I don't remember seeing Laurence in club colours (although I'm happy to be told otherwise), hence no points and the jobsworth hat for me.

ERR Triathlon Results

Summer finally arrived in time for the 2012 ERR Triathlon, and the return of the mighty Nick Sheard who smashed the course, and with it the club record. Not even David Swann (Witney) who won the event could match Nick on the bike. Hannah Brice was the ERR Ladies winner, despite getting lost on the run, both notable achievements! And Hannah's performance was pivotal in Team Eynsham's besting of Team Witney's big guns. In the handicap competition, Nick Maynard romped home, with Dave Ferrier the top placed tri novice. It was also the best ever turnout from the club, with over 20 ERR representing.

Thanks as ever to the sterling work of all the marshals and helpers who contributed to a great morning of multi-sport mayhem. The Eynsham Roadrunners results are below and full results are on the Triathlon page of the website.

Some of us were gallivanting in London, slopping about in mud watching the monumentous occasion when Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney were silenced by some London Council.  Others headed north to Hornton to run 6 miles.

It wasn’t raining when we left, but it certainly did while we were heading up there!  The further we travelled the more torrential it got, by the time we reached the single track lanes heading towards the village, there were huge puddles spanning the road, coming half way up the wheels and you could feel the car aqua plane despite five of us in the car.

We arrived, cake is being served, to eat before , after or both? All strategies were covered in some way by different members of the club.

We lined up for the start just before 7pm, the rain had now abated but our official referee, Mr Combover, announced that if it should start again, the race would be abandoned as there was already surplus water on the course that we would have to run through.

So off we toddled, if you haven’t run this race before, it goes up, then down, then up quite a lot, down a bit, up again, then down a lot.  As you reach the top of one hill, you can see the leaders going up the next.  There was one instance of standing water in the road, about 15m long, we divided into those who did and those who didn’t …..run through.   I was going to but the edges looked easier, so I wimped out.

The finish is at the bottom of a very steep hill, apparently only ¼ mile but it felt much longer. There were lots of hands waving in the air and screaming as people hurtled towards the end, out of control, hoping they wouldn’t crash over the wall that met them as they crossed the line.

So the results, Mark Schofield was first Eynsham home;  I was second lady overall, How did that happen?  No one else was there!  Kate got the Kate award.  A special mention to the Johnson family, who had four in attendance and acquitted themselves superbly.  I think maybe the first race for Sasha.

The evening finished in the local pub with two glasses of red to rehydrate.  The journey home was mainly amusing comments fuelled by alcohol, about not much.  Only Jacky our driver was talking sense by then and she didn’t have the ability to pull the plug on the rest of us!
