Races and Competitions

As well as our friendly club nights and training runs, we also take part in a number of more competitive events, summarised below.

Cross Country

We are active participants in the Oxford Mail Cross Country League, and hosted the season closing fixture at Hill End Centre in 2017. We normally have in excess of 25 – 30 competitors across the different age groups, including juniors, and for the 2018/19 season both our men’s and women’s A teams are in Division 1.

We also take part in the Chiltern Cross Country League on a less competitive (could we even say ‘fun’?) basis.

Motavation

This season of summer evening 4 mile (approx.) races is extremely popular with ERR members, with in excess of 70 entering the series as a whole, and generally over 40 competing on any given Thursday night. In 2020/21 these were virtual races.

Ultras

Some of our members are dedicated/mad enough to take part in ‘ultra’ events. Among the challenges faced, and overcome, by ERR members include the Ridgeway Run (~85 miles), the Thames Path Challenge (~100 miles), and in 2018, 2021 and 2023 a club member attempted the legendary Bob Graham Round in the Lake District, supported by a number of other members.

Team Relays

Among our most popular events are team relays. We normally enter 3 teams of 10 runners in the all-day Ridgeway Relay, and at the more competitive end our men’s team were a magnificent 3rd in 2014, while the ERR ladies’ team were the winners in 2017.

We have also entered a mixed team in the Stratford Hilly 100, a 10 x 10 mile relay, picking up the 3rd prize in that category in 2014, and 2nd in 2015.

We have also entered teams in the Endure 24 all-day event, and had over 30 runners taking part in 2016, as part of the club’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

We also enter a number of teams in the shorter/faster Oxfordshire County Road Relays every year, and both our men’s and women’s teams have won medals in recent years.
