Nettlebed Stinger 10k Report by Mary Gill

I really enjoy these small events run by village schools and communities, with the children’s
races before and the homemade cakes afterwards.

Every finisher was offered a bottle of beer donated by Brakspear – even better!
Thirteen Eynsham roadrunners completed the course. I also had the company of my sister,
in Sandhurst Joggers vest. (She is younger and faster than me – no sisterly running together
for us two.)
The weather was perfect. The route was varied and fairly hilly, going through bluebell woods
and across fields with larks singing overhead. Starting on a steepish downhill might be great
for getting the legs going, but finishing on the same steep hill less welcome. Some of the
paths were quite narrow, which was frustrating for the faster runners, and overhanging
branches a hazard for taller runners. Being somewhat slower, these didn’t impede me at all.
A lovely route in a beautiful part of the county. Not one for a personal best, just one to enjoy.
