Charlton Motavation Report by Graham Bridges

For an event which, to me at least, always signals the start of the summer season, the Charlton Motavation has often coincided with some pretty lousy weather.

I think back to the Great Monsoon of 2014, and various other years when slipping and sliding our way out of the car park made it feel more like a cross country fixture. Anyway, the 2025 version was an honourable exception – a glorious spring evening where the only weather-related issue was where to position the camera for the obligatory team group photo (our attempt is shown below).

The race itself was well attended, with over 460 runners taking part, including 34 ERR folk. Dafydd led us home in a very impressive 31:31 for 56th place, giving an indication of the number of speedsters at the front of the field. Kate Daniels was our first lady, despite saving herself for the London Marathon at the weekend. There were also promising debuts for Adam Stacey and Alex Wilson, as well as welcome returns to competition for those esteemed grandees Tony Whitlock and Nick Sheard.

Well done to Nadine for her 3rd LV60 prize, and an honourable mention to John for finishing 4th in the MV60s. See you all at Marston Ferry Road on May 29th.
