Eynsham Roadrunners Racey Ladies successfully completed the Fire Service 3 Peaks Challenge last week.

We started at 4.32pm last Thursday afternoon at the bottom of Ben Nevis and reached the top in 2.42, with a clear view of the mountains around us.  We then got to the bottom in 2:06 giving us a total Ben Nevis time of 4:48.

Then onto the Lake District with Larry throwing the mini-bus around the winding roads of Glen Coe and almost causing myself and Linda to be sick.

We started Sca Fell Pike at 4:04am, reaching the top in 2:09 despite the windy conditions and again a clear view for miles around, then down in another 1:41 giving us a total time of 3:50.

Finally, Larry again in charge of the winding bits...(uuuuurrrrggghhhh, pass me the bag!).....off to Snowdon.

2:21 would see us achieve a silver medal and though once again, it got tough, at the top, (Jenny's wall got used again), we completed it in 2.09. 

This gave us a total walking time of 10:47 and with the driving of 11:00 our final time was 21:47 under 22 hours, so we got our silver.

I'd like to thank the whole team, Linda Breaker, Jan Kavanagh, Jacky Pinnock, Julie Weiskrantz and Elaine Butler for being a fantastic team, sticking together and helping each other through the tough parts; to Ian Keeley and Larry for being brilliant drivers, for keeping us entertained and for taking advantage of the non-governed minibus so that we had a bit of breathing space before climbing the next mountain.

I'm officially retiring as the 3 peaks ladies team leader, I do not need to go up Sca Fell ever again.  If any one wants the ladies purple box of maps for next year, I am happy to hand them over.

Tewkesbury 1/2 Marathon, 10th May 2009

A flat, fast course and warmish conditions made for some fast times - another week, another pb for Katherine and Kevin. This week's masochist was Ian, who ran 5 miles first, did the half-marathon, then ran another 4. Just as well that he won the wine, as he will need to rehydrate.

Well done also to Kate and Larry for winning their categories. Now the official results are available it seems that Katherine was 3rd LV45, and not 1st. Anyway, she's still got her prize and a fantastic pb, so who cares?

Kate's status is obviously well-known in running circles these days, as when she was given her medal the chap presenting said "here you are, ma'am".

 

Charlton-on-Otmoor Mota-vation, 7th May 2009

42 participants from ERR, which is a record, and some excellent performances, so good news for everyone except the poor soul has to update the website. If anyone would like to correct their time (many were delayed at the start) then please let me know.

Dorney 10k, 12th April 2009

A flat course, decent conditions, but only 1 pb - well done Katherine. Roger won the wine (it's becoming a bit suspicious), and his report is below.

 

 

 

Easter Sunday and a trip to Dorney Lake near Windsor where I had never been before.  Race info said race limit of 750 so we got there in plenty of time.  Surprisingly there were less than 150 runners in total.  There were two races - a 5K with 44 entrants and our race which was 10K and had 110 entrants. The Club was represented in both the long and short leagues by 7 Ladies and 4 Men - it wasn't a bad day for running - overcast but no wind.  It was a very flat course but very uninteresting!  We set off along the side of the lake to a point where we turned round and came back the same way and we had to do that twice!  Well done to Katherine on her PB and also to Ben and Graham who did well to finish 11th and 14th.  Also well done to Becky Clegg on her return to race running and I will try harder to catch her next time!
