Wytham Woods 10k Report, by Graham Bridges

Having scanned a few people’s Strava entries for this race, the key words appear to be mainly ‘hot’ and ‘hilly’, although other terms like ‘scenic’ and ‘friendly’ also crop up from time to time.

And who am I to argue with the people’s verdict? It’s certainly popular, and becoming more so, with the 10k selling out in advance, and what looked like healthy numbers for the 5k and kids fun run. All in all, a tribute to Andy Goodwin and his team of organisers, along with the lure of the woods themselves, perhaps (and no, Nigel, you’re not getting the credit for that).

There were plenty of ERRs out for the 10k, although probably too many for anyone to consider playing their joker. Tom led us home, closely followed by Robert, who took the MV50 title in the process. Liz was our first lady home, on her way to the LV35 crown. There were quite a few other mini-battles throughout the field, and well done to Kate Williamson for taking the FV75 gong – another trophy for the East Wing.

Also worthy of a mention were Gill Middleton, Xavier Laurent and Adrian Pinnock, who all won their categories in the 5k. Then, just to show that the next generation is also in good shape, there were category wins for Isabel and Alexander Daniels, along with Isobel and Sophie Leach in the fun run.

Hope I haven’t missed anyone…
