Henley Cross Country Report by Phil Hurst

So, Henley XC, the last venue in the league for this winter and my first time there.

“It’s a quagmire” they said “horrible slippy tracks!” they warned… Did it put me off? No, and I’m glad it didn’t as the route was lovely smooth grass tracks (with the occasional molehill), some nice dry woodland doubletrack, a gentle climb in the middle and a fast finish to stretch the legs out…..Perfect. To be honest I think the weather has made my introduction to the XC league a bit soft and completely unrealistic this year…….

For anyone wanting to re-live it the wing it runner on youtube had a camera on the way round. (keep an eye open for the occasional Eynsham vest at the start!)

A final note about the whole series. I found it really good fun, it was nice to run in different places. The encouragement from the marshals and other runners was great. I must try harder next year…. (maybe by not starting at the back!!) We should all thank Jacky for organising the XC paperwork for us to run. Thank you also to Tom for organising the tent at each venue which was useful for the boys to hide in while the girls ran round in the rain!
