Headington 5m Report by Tara Lawfull

Headington 5m, by Tara Lawfull Headington 5mi my blog…finally though not going to be as exciting as my last blog, Scottish Highlands Swimrun….though I did win the bottle of wine which I gave away as I don’t drink RED….[image of a happy emoji ]

I always get Headington 5mi and the Hanney 5mi muddled, so in my head I have snippets of both courses merged into one….not a bad thing I suppose….if you like surprises on the course….The weather was a cool, such a refreshing change from the heat we had been exposed to. Weather report was chancing some raindrops towards the end of the race….spot on MET Office! I arrived at HQ on a dull grey morning…..quickly joining the short queue to collect my number then I joined the long’ish queue for the ladies, no surprises there…soon I found the ERR’s posse for a pre-race social chit-chat, clearly remembering eyeing up the table of delights, thinking which one will I eat post race…..yum! Making a swift bag drop, last slurp of squash followed by a WUP….[I’ve been told it’s good for your legs and lungs]..then I made the short walk to the start line…there was a muffled announcement followed by the start sound….we were off, well walking first until we reached the chip timing system…   First mile was effortless even had time for a pose with fellow runner MarinaBO for Barry Cornelius #SmileSnapWeLoveRunning. Mile two, dull as ditchwater along the A40 Northern Bypass, no memory saved along that section! Mile three I had eyeballed a Headington RR who whizzed past me earlier so I thought I would see if I could catch her, I did at mile four….yeah, lifted the mojo and did the overtake, feeling happy with that manoeuvre I pushed on. Did a mental self check with the body mechanics, breathing under control, ticked… legs felt good and stable, ticked…head space, delish cakes, ticked…. so off I went for mile four…..my plan now was not to let a number pass me and hold on, I accomplished this, bravo! [image of a happy emoji ] I did score a PB, my first sub40, chuffed!! A high five to TedG and StanJ for their debut appearance and congratulations to category winners RobertS, BenP, KatherineB and KateA as well as the County Championship equivalents…..plus more PB’s set for TomB and MarkS we Rock!!
