Ascott-under-Wychwood played host to round 12 of the club championship long league and round 13 of the short league. The late season dual championship event enticed 15 Eynsham roadrunners to the multi-terrain 10k course, although it’s understood that late night antics from the night before prevented a larger turnout.

 

The race started with a lap of the sports field and then the 1^st kilometre along the road before the fields, and then the hills…..

 

By about 3k we had started going up hill and by 4k we were still going. Just as the summit appeared to be nearing, we cut through the hedge and found there was still another few hundred metres to go.

 

At least all the early up hill meant that the second half of the race was mainly downhill, with just the odd slope here and there.

 

I was first back from the club, but only just had time to warm down, shower and have a bacon roll with a cup of tea before Tony finished. Graham followed shortly after, with Larry, Derek and Bob completing the finishers in the men’s long league. For the women, Katherine was first back, followed by Kate, Cindy and Pat.

 

In the short league, Peter claimed maximum points for the men, ahead of Andy and Roger, while Denise claimed 50 points in the women’s league as she led home Sandra.

 

Unfortunately no prizes were taken home from Ascott, although if there had been team prizes, Eynsham would surely have won both the men’s and women’s event…and probably come second as well!
