Eynsham Roadrunners
Newsletter
November & December 2005
Hello
everyone.
The obvious way to start this newsletter,
is with a massive thank you to everyone who helped at The Maylarch
Eynsham 10k & 1 mile fun run. I know I say it every year, but
without you helping in such great numbers this race would not take place, which
would leave our club desperately short of funds probably resulting in a huge
increase in membership fees to cover costs
Hopefully by now all helpers should have received their
race T shirt as a small thank you. If not then it will be available at the club
on Wednesdays or at future races
Talking of future races and celebration, this leads me
onto 2 events coming up which hopefully you can and will enjoy both
New Years Eve. As last year we are planning in a
house crawl, which involves visiting a number of local houses, where drinks and
nibbles etc will be provided, then just before midnight moving into The Square
in Eynsham to welcome in the new year and moving on
to another house for a further top up of food and drink.
Interested? If so please let Tony know, whether you would
like to be a host or just come along for the fun, food and booze, which will
not necessarily be in that order.
Please let me know soon, especially if you are considering
being a host so that we can plan the evening ensuring a good time is had by all
Closely following that, will be the next round of The
When is it, do I hear you ask? Well it is on January 1st
with the usual start times. Yes that is correct January 1st.
Just so that you can fully enjoy the previous evening (as
explained earlier in the newsletter) we have arranged a mini-bus to take you
their, picking up at Eynsham and Cassington,
and obviously bringing you back, following the customary pub stop at lunchtime.
The subsidised cost to members will be £2.50.
So please let Tony know if you would like to go on the
bus, then if space is available after runners have had first choice, we will
then make any spare seats available to spectators who may be attracted by the
pub stop on the way back
1 mile Fancy Dress run 21st
December
This annual event takes place on the Wednesday before Xmas
when we meet in the pavilion as normal, but dressed up somewhat, have a chat,
have a drink, run to The White Hart (guess what, have another drink) back to
the pavilion, have a drink, some get changed, then back to The White Hart, have
something to eat, and you should guess what happens then, we have another drink!
Just turn up and enjoy yourself and laugh at everyone else
while we laugh at you
Flora London
As usual, our club has been allocated 2 automatic entries.
To qualify to enter the draw, which takes place during the fancy dress evening,
just bring your rejection slip along on the evening or return it to Derek
before the evening to go into the hat.
This year, only those actually wanting to run in the event
may go into the draw, providing they have been rejected, with no passing on
club entries to ‘friends’
If for any reason someone who receives a club entry is
unable to run, then their number will be re-allocated to those next on the
reserve list which will also be drawn on the night of 21st December.
Finally, before going on to recent race results, I need to
make you aware of another celebration coming up in the summer, and we would
very much like to hear your views on how best to enjoy the occasion.
The occasion to celebrate will be the 20th year
of Eynsham Roadrunners.
So how should we best like to remember and enjoy this
fantastic anniversary?.
Please make your views known to any committee member who
will put your ideas forward to a future sub-committee
Eynsham Club Clothing
As
2006 draws closer perhaps now is the time to re assess your running gear.
Are
you cutting a dash in your hi tech 21st century sportswear or is it again
looking rather tired, droopy and faded ?? If so, never fear – we have a new delivery of
club vests in the very latest go-faster fabric.
I think I can confidently say that whatever your size, we have it in
stock.
To
add to your new vest you may wish to purchase a sweatshirt with the new logo on
the front or perhaps a Coolmax long sleeved top. Then again you may decide on a tee shirt,
shorts or Striders.
The
latest gear, straight from the cat walk, is the new crop top which has proved
to be very popular (mostly bought by the ladies) – weather conditions at the
moment mean that you probably haven’t seen them being worn yet but watch out
for those warm spring days….
So
finally if you decide to update your running clothing I can guarantee there
will be gasps of admiration from other runners as you mingle at the start of
your next race wearing your new royal blue and white.
All the clothing is
subsidised by the club –
Vest £10
Sweatshirt £10
Tee
shirt £4 Coolmax L/S top
£10
Shorts £9 Striders £10
Crop
Tops £10
To
order you can ring me on 01865 880706 or email Ryan105@aol.com
or on a Wednesday at the club.

And to finally
to end, with a little something that might interest us all, from Dave Miller
I found this website which is pretty good for
measuring distances on paths and roads, thought it might be of interest to any
runners really... http://www.gmap-pedometer.com
you can then save any route to a tinyurl. like the Wednesday
night route i did earlier and it came out at just
over 3 miles. see here http://tinyurl.com/92cge
