Eynsham
Roadrunners
Newsletter February 06
Thank you to everyone who
attended the recent AGM. Hopefully it gave you the opportunity to discuss any
ideas or suggestions you had to improve our club. Hopefully you also had a
laugh or two throughout the evening. That was the main (if not the only) item
on the agenda.
Your clubs new officials
and committee are as follows –
Tony Whitlock (chairman)
Derek Breaker (secretary) Mike Jinks (treasurer) Linda Breaker, Roger
Gascoigne, Jane Larbalestier, Sandra Jinks, Larry Poole, Denise & Graham
Bridges, George & Maureen Roberts, Jan Kavanagh, Hugh Morris, Lesley
Parry-Jones and Catherine
If you were unable to
attend, then you may not have received your list of early 2006 Club
Championship events and a list of 2005 social events. These are both included later in this newsletter and I’m sure you’ll agree
that this will be another great year for Eynsham Roadrunners both in running,
and enjoying ourselves. Make sure you get the most out of your club by taking
part! You’ve been warned.
But, and there is a but, as
usual once the old year has ended and the new one begins, that means your
membership fees are due now, at the same price as last year of £10 adults, £5
children and £25 family membership. To Mike Jinks please. Unfortunately this
will be the last newsletter you receive and you will not quality for Club
Championship points
until you have paid up.
20 Years Anniversary of
Eynsham Roadrunners
This is a huge milestone for your club, being 20
years old and being as strong as ever if not the strongest it has ever been
How should we celebrate the momentous occasion?
We’ve reserved a date, the last weekend in May. Please if you have any
suggestions or ideas on how we can make the occasion extra special, please let
a committee member know, or better still come along to The White Hart on Monday
20th Feb when we will debate all options and ideas and hopefully
come up with a plan
I’m halfway across a muddy
field when the phone rings. “Hi mum, just checking that you haven’t forgotten
to pick me up after netball” Damn! “What time did you want picking up?” “In ten
minutes – you’re not out running again are you?” “No, don’t worry I’m on my
way” (with 6 miles to go?)
5 minutes later it goes
again “Hi love, just wondered if you’d picked up my prescription from the
chemist, only they close in twenty minutes” Damn, damn! “Yes, don’t worry I’m
on way”
I’d hardly hung up when it
went again “Mum, you haven’t forgotten my friend is sleeping tonight have you?”
“ No, of course not love, your bedroom’s all ready”
Damn, damn, damn I’ve forgotten to wash the sheets.
And finally, it’s my
mother’s turn by which point my patience is wearing very thin. “Look mum, I’m
really busy can I ring you later?” “Well, it’s just that your dad’s got the
results from his scan and he’s in the clear” Whoops!,
forgot he was going to hospital today.
So, with 6 miles to go, I
had ten minutes to pick up one daughter, catch the chemist before closing time
and wash some sheets. Did I manage it? Yes, of course and all the women reading
this will know how – the men won’t have a clue! After all, there’s only so much
humble pie a girl can eat.
Jan
Cycle Ride, long weekend
in September
We meet again to decide on an approximate venue.
Even if you are only remotely interested in joining us, or just want to know a
little more for future years, please come along to (guess where?) The White
Hart on Tuesday 21st Feb when things may become a little clearer.
Eynsham Roadrunners Website www.eynshamroadrunners.org.uk
Have you checked it out recently? It will bring you
right up to date with what’s going on in your club. You might even see how well
you are doing in this years club champs, or how badly for some of us! (these results are only provisional)
